Nintendo To Add More Media Capabilities To The DS
The company is projecting to announce an updated edition of the Nintendo DS furnished with a camera and music-playing capabilities. The cost for the new machine, which will also be supplied with advanced wireless communications functions, is likely to be below 20,000 yen ($189) in Japan, compared with 16,800 yen for the current model. Others have proposed the possibility of a bigger screen, interoperability with the Wii, SD chips, and new games to make the best of an onboard camera.
The decision to supply more media capabilities to the DS would make up a fascinating move. Nintendo has had very sound success enhancing the gaming experience instead of trying to be a media player or a camera. The ability of the dual screens, the touch screen, the wireless communication, etc. have helped it distinguish the DS, even among devices like the iPhone and the iPod touch.
